New York Style Cheesy Garlic Knots
Homemade garlic knots that are just like the ones you get at NYC pizza shops, stuffed with cheese! Soft & fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside, & drenched in a garlic herb butter...this is my kind of bread!
I’m pretty sure I ate pizza shop garlic knots every single day when I was in NYC last week. When it was time to venture home, I was already mourning the absence of garlic knots in my daily diet, so of course, I had to recreate them at home. I can confidently say that these are infinitely better than the NYC version. Not only are they stuffed with gooey cheese, but they’re also made with bread flour for an extra soft & fluffy interior. I’m not missing the NYC garlic knots anymore!
And…they’re coated in a heavenly homemade garlic herb butter. You’ve got to try these & let me know what you think!

New York Style Cheesy Garlic Knots
Homemade garlic knots that are just like the ones you get at NYC pizza shops! Soft & fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside, drenched in a garlic herb butter...this is my kind of bread!
Ingredients:
- 1 ⅓ cup warm water (about 110 F) (320 g)
- 2 ¼ tsps instant yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsps olive oil (40 g)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp oregano
- 3 ½ cups bread flour (420 grams)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg (beaten)
- ½ cup salted butter (melted)
- 3 minced garlic cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- ¼ cup parmesan cheese
- 3 tbsps minced parsley
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk warm water, yeast, and sugar together. Let it sit for 5 minutes to foam up. Then add in the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, oregano, & ½ the bread flour. Slowly mix everything together, & then stir in the remaining flour until a shaggy dough forms.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5 minutes. Cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces, and roll each of them into logs. Flatten the logs into rectangles 1 inch in width, line some shredded cheese along the length of each one. Roll the logs up, & seal them lengthwise. Double-knot each log, & tuck the ends of the knots underneath. Place them 2 inches apart on a baking sheet.
- Mix the garlic butter topping ingredients together.
- Cover the knots, and let them rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Brush them with the beaten egg and the garlic butter topping. Bake at 400 F for 20 minutes. Brush them with the garlic butter topping again to finish.
"Jesus replied, "What is impossible with man is possible with God."
